Here’s a sample of what our week in Guatemala will be like…register and find out more here
Your adventure in Guatemala begins with a 45-minute boat ride across lake Atitlan. We will gather together to celebrate our arrival and the beginning of our retreat with a delicious meal. We will end our first evening with a practice of deep relaxation called Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep).
Day 2…July 15
Wake up in Guatemala…aaah. Stroll to a not too early morning yoga class beside the lake. Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast and a day of your own making which might include, taking in Sumaya’s beauty, swimming, kayaking, getting a massage, or a multitude of other options. In the afternoon we will reconvene for companionship and yoga.
After a vibrant yoga practice and another delightful breakfast, our day continues with a scenic boat ride across the lake to Santiago. We will visit historic sights, look at primitive paintings, beadwork and handcrafted woodwork of this independent and modern Maya village. When we return to Villa Sumaya, enjoy the rest of your day on your own. How about a massage?
Day 4…July 17
This day, if you choose, will be spent helping the a local family or community with our SEVA or service project. We might help plant a garden, repair a house, build ovens. Feel your heart open with service. In the evening we will connect and explore a heart opening yoga practice.
Day 5…..July 18
This day starts with a long exploratory yoga practice including pranayama and meditation. The middle of the day is yours to spend as you wish…on the dock, in the lake, bird watching, or maybe an exciting zip lining adventure. We will gather in the later day for an awakening, groovy, energy-building practice with live drumming.
Enjoy another morning practice. After breakfast we will venture forth into the countryside for an hours ride to the Chi Chi Market. Here we will enjoy the energy and culture of a highland town on market day. You may find that special keepsake or the perfect gift.
Day 7….July 20
A morning practice and hearty breakfast are followed by an unforgettable hike to El Pico de Cielo. We will be joined by expert local guides to share their insight into the culture and people of Guatemala. This hike offers two options to suit different levels of fitness. No matter which route you take, we will convene at the summit for a picnic lunch and spectacular views of the Atitlan basin below. Our day ends with a well-earned restorative yoga practice to unwind. (Please note, there is an additional cost for the hike of $45 per person.)
